Hal Blair and I wrote many songs together sitting at the piano. Hal never wrote a note of music on our co-written songs, though he was capable of writing melodies. He didn't want to interfere with my melody work, which he felt was superior to his own. His work was all on the lyrics, on which we always collaborated.
